About Chateau Lagrezette 2011 Malbec, Cahors

A Previous Wine Enthusiast Magazine Top 100 selection, Chateau Lagrezette is an historic estate dating back 500 years. Located in France's Cahors region, which is the birthplace of the Malbec grape variety. Restored to prominence over the last three decades by Alain Dominique Perrin, the cellars and equipment are all state-of-the-art. Super Star consultant Michel Rolland oversees the winemaking to turn out award winning Malbec-based reds with true expression. This is the signature wine of the estate, 87% Malbec, 12% Merlot, 1% Tannat, sourced from 20 and 30-year-old vines on the second and third terraces above the Lot River. Soils are clay and limestone with a foundation of limestone. The wine aged 18 months in new and one-year-old French barrels and was bottled without clarification or filtering.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "With mint and black fruit aromas, this is a ripe, fruity wood-aged wine. Power and complexity come from the structure and the dark black fruits. Hints of licorice accent the strong tannins and fruit. Drink from 2018."

Wine Spectator scored this 91 points saying "The 2011 Cahors Malbec is a blend of 87% Malbec, 12% Merlot and 1% Tannat that spent 18 months in new and 1-year-old barrels. Coming from terraced plots and clay and limestone soils, it offers decadently styled aromas and flavors of cassis, plum, chocolate and vanilla that flow to a full-bodied, soft, yet layered and decidedly rich mouthfeel. There’s a wealth of material here, yet it is already supple and approachable, with sweet tannin and good length. Drink it over the coming 7-9 years."
